My inspiration for this piece comes from Jesus Christ’s “Triumphal Entry” into Jerusalem for His last Passover. Riding a donkey, He is greeted with waving palm branches and shouts of “Hosanna”.
At that moment, I envision Jesus’ expression reflecting a mixture of emotions: A kind smile, pleased to be acknowledged as the long-awaited Messiah. Compassion for His followers. And yet, a far-off look in His eye as He contemplates what will be required of Him at the end of the week. The cheering will turn to jeering as He fulfills His divine mission— the atoning sacrifice for all of mankind.
Christ does not shrink from that mission. He watches over and protects His sheep. Then, now and always. Truly, the Guardian of our souls.
